Types of Finishes
Custom Polishing Services for Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Exotic Alloy Materials.
We offer finishes on all types of metal substrates and extrusions such as angles, flat bar, tube, channels, ect. In addition to our robotic and automatic polishing machines we have built custom machinery to polish parts up to 12 inches wide by 30 feet in length.
#3 Finish
This is a polished finish obtained by finishing metal with approximately 100 grit abrasive, generally used as a semi-final finish. This is often used for architectural components and food processing/kitchen equipment. |
 |
#4 Finish
This finish is a general purpose, polished bright finish. The final finish is generally done with abrasives having a particle size of 120 to 150 mesh, following the initial grinding with course abrasives.
This finish is often used for architectural wall panels, elevator doors and interiors, furniture, storefronts, restaurant equipment, kitchen equipment and dairy equipment. |
 |
#4 Finish - Non-Directional Satin
This finish is obtained by using 80-150 grit with no grain direction. |
 |
#6 Finish
This is a soft (dull) satin finish, with lower reflectivity than the #4 finish. This finish is produced by brushing the #4 finish sheet, using a medium of abrasive and oil.
This finish is often used in architectural or ornamental applications where a high luster is not desired. It is often used with stainless steel furniture. |
 |
#7 Finish
This finish has a high reflectivity produced by buffing a surface which has first been finely brushed, but not to the extent that the grit lines are removed through the final buffing process. It is often used for architectural and ornamental parts. |
 |
#8 Finish
The most reflective finish, also known as mirror or polished, this is the highest reflective finish available. It is produced by polishing with successively finer abrasives, then buffing with a very fine buffing compound or rouge.
The surface is essentially free of grit lines from preliminary grinding operations, though, at certain angles, some may still be visible. This finish is used primarily for decorative purposes such as architectural parts, small mirrors and reflectors. |
 |
#8 Finish - Non-Directional Finish
Derived from a #8 finish, the material is finished with an orbital sander using 180-240 grit. Whichever way the sheet is viewed, there is no pattern or grain. This produces a highly decorative finish. |
